Sun Concept – Solar Boat Builders is a technology / industry based start-up of electro-solar boat development and construction resulting from the synergy between innovation, design and sustainability.
This entrepreneurial project was born from the environmental and social conscience of a small group of investors who assumed that by stopping the use of fossil fuels could both lower the impacts of climate changes and ecosystems degradation while promoting socio-economic activities with improved revenues through green economy.
Born in Olhão and inspired by the Ria Formosa Natural Park we sought a broader vision of the symbiosis between people and nature as a way to find answers to the challenges of climate change, biodiversity and ecosystems conservation, electric mobility, energy independence and the easing of economic burdens supported by conventional boat operators and their families.
By the end of 2016 we had already attained a national dimension with a presence ranging from the Minho River to the Ria Formosa, passing through the Douro valley, the Aveiro delta and the Tejo river estuary, Great Lisbon area.
Our first response is the SunSailer 7.0 project, a line of 7m solar electrical boats, planned to be cost efficient, adaptable to various types of uses, from leisure to professional use for tourism, transport services and to provide support for local communities and for fishing and aquaculture, with a line of serial models designed to navigate in inland waters such as coastal areas, estuaries, rivers and lagoons, whether for leisure or work.
Soon we expect to start the production on a new 12m electro-solar boat with full sea capability, adaptable to multiple uses, from support for fishing and aquaculture, such as marine wildlife observation tourism, to family leisure.
By producing boats that neither use fossil fuels nor emit greenhouse gases, that move silently and harmoniously within the environment, and that allow enormous savings, we believe that we are providing the market with a range of very attractive solutions to satisfy the highest economic, social and environmental criteria, which are the basis for the progress of society.
